Prologue:

Is THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY a fiction or fact. a few subtle hints are given in the song GIVE LOVE
and in Rapatative number 5 as to what the crime is. He who has an ear, let him hear. Regardless
the music and story can be enjoyed at whatever level the listener chooses.
I have created several innovations within my rock opera. LEIT MOTIF: Instead of the traditional melody per character approach to the leitmotif I instead used a stylistic approach so that each character has a representative musical style. For example Humpy is always glam metal, Abraxius always has a reggae backbeat, Trevor is Jazz fusion etc.
RAPPATATIVE: Instead of the traditional Classical recitative where the focus is on quickly spoken words with little melody to advance the storyline, I have used a contemporary Rap approach to achieve the same result. It seemed a perfect fit!
CHORUS: I have taken the ancient Greek Theatrical idea of a chorus of masked orators who recite the play and applied it to the Rappers who again tell the story and advance the plotline.
While listening I suggest you imagine the following voices for the various characters. My ideal picks would be;
Sting as Peter Fox
Axel Rose as Humpy Dampster
Donald Fagan as Trevor O'roarke
Sarah Brightman as Valentina
Eddie Grant as Abraxius
Billy Joel as Owen Willing
and Alice Cooper as Number One

CRIME OF THE CENTURY is a modern rock opera written, composed and performed by Arcurus except It's Alright & Have you heard the news: music by Kai and Roger Salloum.
Also introducing Michelle Baynton as Valentina.

Peter Fox - the protagonist
The Peter Fox Band - with

Humpy Dampster & The Image Conscious Five (there's only 4 of them) - the hedonistic prima donna rival metal band.

The Rappers:
Playing the part of a classical Greek theater chorus
J-Blunt - Black American cool gangsta hip hop rapper.
DJ-Shavier - British Indian colorful ethno fashion rapper.
Dieter - Ultra mod German techno rapper ala "sprockets".

Co-starring:
Larry Stone - the aging rock star.
David Gerschvwitzsteinman - Peter's brother-in-law / lawyer.
Owen Willingly (he owes them willingly) - Valentina's father and record company president.
Number One - the top man of the dark global elite Cabal.
The Sirens - the sex slaves at the Bohemian Grove.

THE SEEDLING IMPETUS:
Crime of the Century is roughly based upon 2 books. They are Tranceformation of America by Cathy O'brien, and The Biggest Secret by David Icke. Set against this backdrop is a story of heroism, courage, love, passion, music, fame, secret societies, sacrifice, sex drugs & rock n roll as a young idealist rock star gets caught up in things much bigger than he realizes.

Crime of the Century Act 1 lyrics

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SCENE 1:
A darkened stage lights up revealing a garage turned into a band rehearsal space. A
young man carrying a guitar enters stage left. He plugs in guitar and strikes three
successive staccato A chords. There is silence. The three chords are struck again as
a second guitarist enters stage right. The second guitarist plugs in and responds to
the 3 chord motif with a two chord riff. The rest of the band enters and thus the first
song is born.
KNOW WHAT I KNOW Sung by Peter Fox
You might say I'm lazy
Might say I'm extreme
Music makes me crazy
Music is a dream
Something in me was set aflame
The lights, the crowd shouting a name
So who can blame us if we want
To taste the fame, Our own true aim
You'll know what I know
You'll know what I know
You'll know what I know
You'll know what I know
You don't have to be blind
And nothing's what it seems
Shake off all the ties that bind
Skim off all the cream
Something in me I don't know why
But I can't live unless I try
To reach the high just one time
Before I die, I'm going to fly
You'll know what I know
You'll know what I know
You'll know what I know
You'll know what I know
The next day Trevor comes in to announce that he has got the band a showcase gig and chances are an important celeb. may be there. Naturally everyone is quite excited.
Immediately upon finishing KNOW WHAT I KNOW a jazzy high hat begins with
Trevor snapping his fingers to the beat. He enjoys the spotlight as he swaggers
about the garage sharing his excitement as he expounds over the upcoming gig he
has procured for the band.
FANTASTICAL MAGICAL *lyrics Chris Prince, music Chris Prince & Roger Salloum. Sung by Trevor O'roarke
Hey were gonna do a show tonight
Do ya feel alright
Hey were gonna do a show tonight
Really out of sight
We'll tell everyone
We're gonna have some fun
We'll rock that stage tonight
And shine like stars tonight
Cause it's fantastical, magical, irresistibly elastical
Excitable, ignitable, exuberantly undeniable
We've got a show tonight
My legs start to quiver
My body will shiver
It's some kind of thriller
This makes me feel so alive
Hey were gonna do a show tonight
Do ya feel alright
Hey were gonna do a show tonight
Really out of sight
We'll tell everyone
We're gonna have some fun
We'll rock that stage tonight
And shine like stars tonight
Cause it's fantastical, magical, irresistibly elastical
Excitable, ignitable, exuberantly undeniable
It's Friday night at the club and everyone is there. The main headliner come out to do their set.
SCENE 2:
A smoky nightclub filled with young people drinks and a stage appear. An MC steps up
to the microphone and encourages the crowd to welcome the unofficial house band
to the stage. Enter Humpy Damster and the Image Conscious Five. He launches into
his song.
ROTTEN FROM WITHIN Sung by Humpy Dampster
I am a shade, Caught in between
I feel hunger, I feel mean
I love the fear, Hate all I see
Like you I'm, Wrapped in misery
And do you know my name
And do you know my game
I can tell you where you've been
And I am rotten from within
I am control, That you don't see
I like that you, Don't believe in me
You are my slave, And so I feed
You're trapped by, Everything you need
And do you know my name
And do you know my game
I can tell you where you've been
And I am rotten from within
It is late and the club is winding down as many of Humpy's fans have left, but there is
one more act waiting to take the stage. The MC steps up one more time and
encourages the crowd to welcome the Peter Fox Band in their debut performance.
Unbeknownst to Peter, super-famous rock-star Larry Stone is in a private booth
watching the performance.
ORDINARY MAN lyrics & music Chris Prince, Sung by Peter Fox
He's an ordinary man, With an ordinary life
An ordinary job, And an ordinary wife
He has a pair of children, Who just don't seem to care
The wife will let him once a week, But she's not really there
And I wonder, And I ponder
Can you tell me where this ordinary man is going to?
He's an ordinary man, Who wants to get ahead
He never stops to think, Some day he will be dead
He doesn't understand, Why things don't work out like he planned
Every day is the same now, It's more than he can stand
And I wonder, And I ponder
Can you tell me where this ordinary man is going to?
He's an ordinary man, Drives an ordinary car
Week nights by the TV, Weekends at the bar
It's all the same old story, And I've seen it all before
I won't bother to open, When he's knocking on my door
And I wonder, And I ponder
Can you tell me where this ordinary man is going to?
Peter gets home from the gig and he is far too charged up to sleep. He decides to watch TV to relax, and while channel surfing happens upon a documentary about Princess Diana's work in campaigning against landmines. He is quite moved by what he sees.
SCENE 3:
After the gig Peter is back home in his bedroom winding down from the evenings
excitement. He is laying back on his bed abstractly channel surfing when we comes
across a documentary featuring Princess Diana and her campaign to end the use of
land mines. Peter becomes deeply moved by what he sees.
LIKE A ROSE Sung by Peter Fox
I wish that I could die
Wish that I could cry
When I see what they've done
At the point of a gun
It makes me wonder why
They all believe the lie
That we are not the same
It's a sad and tragic game
Life is beautiful, If we could let it be
Life is everywhere, If we could only see
What do I do
How can I, Just stand by
And look her in the eye
If we could love
We could rise above
She is like a rose, a dove
She touched me she touched love
With great power to change
My heart feels so strange
Something has come over me
Things that are should never be
The light that I see
Shows the way and speaks to me
Lights come up on a very upscale looking recording studio. In front of a wall of sound
equipment sits Larry Stone beside a large mixing console. His head is bobbing and
he is humming to a song only he can hear. In walks Peter who stands there a little
awkwardly not sure what to do when Larry takes notice of him. With the laid back
confidence that comes with success, Larry explains that he is listening to material
for his upcoming album. He puts on a 45 of a song Humpy has submitted for
Larry's album and asks Peter's opinion.
SCENE 5:
Several months have gone by and we find ourselves back in the garage. Trevor walks in
Ordinary Man and Peter's version of Parks Is Weneth are on the album and it is at
the number 1 spot with a bullet.
HAVE YOU HEARD THE NEWS * lyrics Chris Prince, music Chris Prince & Roger Salloum Sung by Trevor, Paul, & Jamie
T- Have you heard the news
J- You hear what they say
T- The songs have hit
J- And we've hit payday
T- Have you heard the news
J- Have you seen the page
T- We're all the rage
J- When we take the stage
T- Think I'll but a new guitar
Maybe get a brand new car
J- A party where we all get stoned
P- A supermodel off my own
Maybe we should change our muse
Take the time to pick and choose
J- Music that could redefine
The conscious state of human kind
T- Nothing really so grandeur
Let's have fun and nothing more
P- We've got the cash
We've got a name
So on our own
Let's do it again
T- Have you heard the news
J- You hear what they say
T- The songs have hit
J- And we've hit payday
T- Have you heard the news
J- Have you seen the page
T- We're all the rage
J- When we take the stage
P- What will be is what I see
Nothing really changes me
Now I see an open door
Maybe there's still something more
SCENE 6:
Once more Peter is relaxed on his bed buoyed to elation by the success of his songs. He
is abstractly channel surfing when he comes across a news channel announcing the
untimely death of Princess Diana. Transfixed by this tragic news something within
Peter shifts and he vows to carry on Diana's campaign against land mines. Peter
decides to launch a lawsuit against the land mine manufacturers.
LIKE A ROSE part 2 Sung by Peter Fox
I wish that I could die
Wish that I could cry
When I see what's been done, To you
Life is fragile, Don't hesitate
Life is fleeting, It won't wait
What do I do, How can I
Just stand by, How can I let
Her dream die
(A fuzzy radio voice reads a news release of the death of Princess Diana in the tragic car crash)
I'll make the whole world see
The things that should not be
The things that are not right
Must be brought to light
And bring down the dogs
Who drink from pools of blood
Of children who have died
They lay death in the ground
Where later it's found
And bodies rip apart
With an awful sound
They profit while they scheme
Divide the human beings
How can I believe
It's hard very hard
For me to believe
That people could do that
Who would do that ?
Who would do that ?
RAPATATIVE #2
D- So the odds he'll defy
He's got that look in his eye
Now he'll carry the torch
With fire to scorch
The villains who make
The mines that create
The death and despair
Of course they don't care
S- Peter's got all the green
More than he's ever seen
At any one time
It feels so sublime
But Peter being given
As dreamers are driven
To mad things delight
He's picked a hard fight
J- So he calls up his brother
Hey let's get these mother
Fuckers that trade
On death that they made
Planned long ago
These things that I know
Now here's the deal
It's time that we heal
The land where we live
I want to give
Ass kicks to these guys
Maybe poke out there eyes
Will you help me out
Now don't make me shout
We'll use you're expertise
To burn the corporate sleaze
D- David says it sounds rash
But hey you got the cash
I'll take on your case
Your heart's in the right place
So all the suits soon where filed
Just like girls gone wild
S- And the spotlight fell
From heaven to hell
Which made the ground swell
You never can tell
Which one's gonna hit
Which one's full of shit
Which way the wind blows
Who knows where it goes
SCENE 7:
The stage is split into two halves. On one side is the rehearsal space with the band and
their instruments. On the other side is the law office of David Gerschwitzsteinman,
Peter's brother-in-law. David is very animated as he tells Peter the good news
regarding his lawsuit against the land mine producers.
HIGH PROFILE Sung by David Gerschvwitzsteinman
Have you heard the news
Have you seen the page
Obviously not
Let me set the stage
We got the ISF, And the ICC
AI, Di's estate, Just wait and see
I really can't believe
The attention you receive
It's gonna hit the fan I swear
Cause it's high profile, High profile for you
It's high profile, High profile for you
The media has noticed, They've joined in the fray
And rumours in DC, Are starting to say
It's high profile, High profile for you
It's high profile, High profile for you
It may not be total, But one thing is clear
Changes will be coming, From all that I hear
I really can't believe
The attention you receive
It's gonna hit the fan I swear
Cause it's high profile, High profile for you
It's high profile, High profile for you
Cause it's high profile, High profile for you
